The original MacBook Pro®, introduced in January of 2006, came with a 15.4-inch TFT 1440x900 LCD, 1.83 or 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo processor with 2 MB of level 2 cache, 512MB or 1GB of RAM, 128MB or 256MB of Video RAM, 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet, Airport Extreme®, iSight®, Stereo Speakers, Microphone, SuperDrive, Remote Control, Dual USB® 2.0 ports, DVI port, FireWire 400 Port, ExpressCard/34 slot, Headphone/Optical Audio Input, and Microphone/Optical Audio output.

In April of 2006, the MacBook Pro® (17-Inch) was introduced. This model had a 17-in TFT 1680x1050 Display, 256MB of video RAM (Shared), 1GB of RAM, an additonal FireWire 800 port and an additional USB port; other features were the same as the 15.4-inch model.

In May of 2006, the MacBook Pro® (15-Inch Glossy) was introduced. This model was comparable to the original MacBook Pro® except that it had a faster processor (2.0 or 2.16GHz) and it had a glossy LCD.

Then in October of 2006 the MacBook Pro® (Late 2006) was introduced with the Core2 Duo Processor. This model had a 15.4-inch LCD, a 2.16 GHz Processor, and 1GB of RAM; a 15.4 LCD, a 2.33 GHz Processor, and 2GB of RAM; or a 17-inch LCD, a 2.33 GHz Processor, and 2GB of RAM. The 15.4-inch models came with a 6x SuperDrive, and the 17-inch model had an 8x SuperDrive. All models now include one FireWire 400 and one FireWire 800 port. Other features were identical to the earlier models.

In June of 2007, the MacBook Pro® (Mid 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz) was introduced. The entry level 15.4-inch model had a 2.2GHz Processor with 120GB HD, and the two top end models (15.4-inch and 17-inch) had a 160GB HD. All models came with 2GB of RAM and 8x SuperDrives.

The current line, the MacBook Pro® (Late 2007, 2.6/2.4/2.0GHz), was introduced in November of 2007. The entry level machine still had a 2.2GHz processor, but the two high-end machines now have an optional 2.6GHz processor. Otherwise, these machines have the same features as the previous models.

All MacBook Pros are hard to work on. RAM is user-installable, but most other repairs require major disassembly. Few parts are interchangeable between the various models.
